WD Purple HDD 8TB
Code: WDPURPLEHDD-8TBProduct detailed description
The WD Purple HDD 8TB is a professional internal hard drive specifically designed for surveillance and security systems operating continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It offers 8 TB of capacity, a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface and CMR magnetic recording technology. It is optimized for long-term storage of video recordings from security cameras, DVR and NVR recorders, and larger surveillance systems.
The 8 TB capacity provides ample space for storing large amounts of high-resolution video footage. The drive supports simultaneous recording from up to 64 HD cameras, although the actual number of supported cameras and video retention time depend on their resolution, bitrate, compression and recording system configuration.
WD AllFrame technology optimizes the drive firmware for continuous recording of multiple video streams. It helps reduce frame loss and improve recording smoothness in compatible security systems. This makes WD Purple suitable for environments where stable, long-term storage of surveillance footage is a priority.
The drive uses CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording) technology, delivering consistent performance during sustained and repeated data writes. Combined with a 256MB cache, 5640 RPM spindle speed and maximum transfer rate of 215 MB/s, it provides reliable storage for demanding recording applications.
The 24/7-optimized design supports a workload rating of up to 180 TB per year and a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 1,000,000 hours. Integrated rotational vibration sensors help maintain stable operation in systems containing multiple hard drives. The model is designed for devices supporting up to 16 drive bays.
The WD Purple HDD 8TB also offers energy-efficient operation with typical power consumption of approximately 5.3 W during read/write activity and 4.7 W when idle. The drive operates at temperatures from 0 to 65 °C, and its standard 3.5" form factor allows installation in compatible surveillance recorders, storage devices and computer systems.
The WD Purple HDD 8TB is a suitable solution for home and professional surveillance systems, security infrastructure, business monitoring and long-term video archiving. The manufacturer provides a 3-year limited warranty.
